  • Suicide Bomber?

Well, I just got back from outside, and a friend of mine over G-Talk sent me a link.. a link to a news site, saying "There was a bomb blast in Naypyidaw." I was quite shocked, and hurriedly read the news on the news site.

First of all, the bomb blast happened in the bathroom of a railway station in Pyinmana, which serves as the main railway station for Napyidaw this morning (Jan. 11, 2008). I read that a woman died in the blast. (source: Reuters)

I've read from another source that there are unconfirmed stories that it was a suicide bombing attack by a Kayin woman, and she was the one who died. I have no official sources for this.. Just reporting as I've read. (I would have liked to credit the person who says this, but he/she might not like it, so I won't.) I hear from another that she planted the bomb, but it accidentally went off.

These bomb blasts are not uncommon in Myanmar. There have been landmine blasts in rural parts of Bago State, most namely in Kyauk-kyi Township, which is near Kayin State. I've read in the newspaper many times of how someone (who was just villagers looking for wood or stepping into a bush for a pit-stop) stepped on a mine there, getting there legs injured, cut-off, or sometimes even got killed. The government blamed it on Kayin insurgents, but some says that they are just made-up stories by the government, or even that the soldiers planted them there.

Ever since the May 7 bombings at 3 shopping centers in 2005, killing many people, securities have tightened (no.. actually.. newly introduced) at many shopping malls, movie theaters, and at railway stations. But I've noticed that there are also some times where these securities are not very tight, and the securities just let the people in easily without checking. So whenever I visit a crowded place, I just have to pray that no one had planted any bombs.

When the May bombings happened, I was quite appalled and disgusted. So many innocent people had died, and I'm sure not of them had done any wrong to those people who planted the bombs. Some of them were cashiers working at City Mart. Who would have thought that when they had come to work that morning, they wouldn't be going back home again? It was just so awful! Just because you don't like the government, you shouldn't target at innocent people. It is just wrong! Target them, target the government! I wouldn't give a damn if ... umm. never mind... It's still a life.. I don't feel it's right to judge whether a person should die or not, or take matters into your own hands, no matter how evil he is. I would say, "Let the law decide." But in a country like here.....

I haven't heard about this. Thanks for mentioning it, although please be careful talking about it. Of course, one cannot help but wonder who would have bombs or weapons especially in Ygn bombings. Hmm..carrying weapons in the city, not in the borders..and setting them off to kill lay people intentionally, perhaps with a hidden motive.  Who could possibly be cruel enough to carry  out such evil deeds, in order to serve their own interest??

I can take a guess. Back to the smoke and mirror again.

Wow, it seems like no matter what country there will be suicide bombers doing something for what they believe in. That was 9/11 about. Hope you have a wonderful weekend..
